Event - Public Race Registered Competitors Results

1 RACE ORGANIZATION

Olympic Center Jahorina in cooperation with partners organizes the sixth edition of Jahorina Ultra Trail  which will take place on 25 and 26 July. Special partner is Vucko Hotel on Jahorina.

2 GENERAL INFORMATION

Jahorina Ultra Trail 2020 is a competition that will take place on courses of various length and both recreational and professional runners can participate. The race is a two-day event designed to connect Jahorina with other parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina and to promote natural, historical and Olympic heritage. ULTRA: 88 km and 3885 m of variation in altitude. The race starts on Jahorina mountain, on Saturday 25 July 2020, at 6:00 AM. Time limit: 23 hours. Awarded with 4 ITRA points.

MAXI: 49 km and 2175 m of variation in altitude. The race starts on Jahorina, on Saturday 25 July 2020, at 6:00 AM. Time limit:16 hours. Awarded with 2 ITRA points.

MIDI:23 km and 1067 m of variation in altitude. The race starts on Jahorina, on Saturday 25 July 2020, at 08:00 AM Time limit: 6 hours. Awarded with 1 ITRA point.

MINI Trail: 14 km and 594 m of variations in altitude. The race starts on Jahorina, on Saturday 25 July 2020, at 08:00 AM. Time limit: 3 hours. Not awarded with ITRA points.

The organizer will publish information for each race with full descriptions of courses with time limits at control points.

 

3 PARTICIPATION REQUIREMENTS

To participate in races, competitors should have previous experience in the mountain surrounding. Depending on the course they choose, they must possess solid/excellent physical condition and suitable footwear and clothing in order to move along forest roads or dirty hiking trails, as well as additional equipment for the races, which organizer prescribed as mandatory.

4 REGISTRATION

Applications start on 16 March and end on 6 April 2020. Should the maximum number of participants is not reached, the registration will reopen on 9 April 2020 and shall close on 10 July 2020, or when maximum number of participants reached. Applications are online and they are complete after the participant transfers the defined amount of entry fee to the bank account of the organizer

Categories

Participants will compete in the male and female competition. The MIDI Trail will also have an additional "Military/police”  category. To register and participate in the "Military/police" group, contestants will have to state it in their online registration form, section “Team/Club” and prove their status with their official identification card.

Registration fee includes the following:

  • A race number,
    · Assistance and refreshments along the race route,
    · Starter pack,
    · Electronic timing,
    · a meal after the race,
    · A finisher`s medal.

Registration for the MINI Trail does not include a meal.

Maximum number of participants          

Maximum number of participants is limited to 600:
• 100 for ULTRA Trail,
• 100 for for MAXI Trail,
• 200 for MIDI Trail,
• 200 for MINI Trail.

 

Cancellation

After the participant informes the organization on time about cancelling, the organizer will refund the registration fee in the amount of 50% if cancelled before 11 July 2020. The refund will not be made if the application is cancelled after 10 July 2020. The organizer will reimburse the participants no later than 30 September 2020. Registration fee can be used for the next edition of the race, if the participant  wishes to do so.

In case a participant wants to switch from a shorter race to a longer one, he/she needs to inform the organizer about the change via official email and pay the difference based on the price list applied on that day. In case he/she wants to switch from a longer race to a shorter one, it is necessary to inform the organizer about the change via official email. For this change, the organizer is not obliged to return the difference in prices.

In the case of extraordinary events, weather conditions, earthquakes, floods and extreme climatic phenomena in the period up to 15 days before the scheduled date of the race, the organizer reserves the right to refund 50% of the entry fee. This percentage is calculated to enable the organizer to cover part of the expenses incurred. Should the race be cancelled or interrupted for inclement weather reasons, or for any other reason beyond our control, no refund of the admission fee will be made.

5 COLLECTION OF RACE BIBS AND RACE PACKS

Once the race bibs are picked up, participants may not exchange them between each other. The race bibs and race packet distribution will take place on  24th July 2020, at Vucko Hotel on Jahorina.

The organizers will in timely manner inform participants about precise info center locations and times for race number and packet pick up via publication on the website, social networks and e-mail. Both race numbers and packets will be given only on presentation of an identity document (or official identification card in the case of participants competing in the Military/Police category).

It will not be possible to collect race numbers or race packets on Jahorina, on Saturday, 25 July, 2020 or in the start zone EXCEPT for the  MIDI and MINI Trail race, , but only prior to 08:00 AM on Saturday, 25 July.

 

6 START OF THE RACE

Participants are required to arrive to the following locations according to the official schedule:

The equipment will be waiting for them at the finish line after the end of the race. The organizer is responsible only for the equipment to be handed over to an accredited person, which should be packed in a bag with a matching race number. The race starts at 06:00 AM.

MAXI Trail participants shall gather at the start location on Saturday July 25, 2020, no later than 05:30 AM. There will be organized area for equipment that competitors may want to leave behind. The equipment will be waiting for them at the finish line after the end of the race. The organizer is responsible only for the equipment to be handed over to an accredited person, which should be packed in a bag with a matching race number. The race starts at 06:00 AM.

MIDI Trail participants shall gather on Saturday, July 25, 2020, no later than 07:00. At the start area ,there will be organized area for the equipment that competitors may want to leave behind. The equipment will be waiting for them at the finish line after the end of the race. The organizer is responsible only for equipment to be handed over to an accredited person, which should be packed in a bag with a matching race number. The race starts at 08:00.

MINI Trail participants shall gather at start area on Saturday, July 25, 2020, no later than 07:00. There will be organized area for the equipment that competitors may want to leave. The equipment will be waiting for them at the finish line after the end of the race. The organizer is responsible only for equipment to be handed over to an accredited person, which should be packed in a bag with matching race number. The race starts at 08:00.

7 PRIZES AND CATEGORIES

Money (5000 KM) and non monetary prizes (6000 KM) shall be awarded for the following categories:

  • Women (all races)
  • Men (all races)

RACE ROUTES

DETAILED ROUTES FOR ULTRA, MAXI, MIDI, and MINI TRAIL soon to be published.

On Friday, 24 July, 2020 at 19:00h, the organizer will hold the technical meeting with MAXI and ULTRA TRAIL participants on Jahorina.

On Saturday, 25 July 2020, just before the race, the organizer will hold the technical meeting with MIDI and MINI TRAIL participants on Jahorina.

In the case of extraordinary events, bad weather conditions, earthquakes, floods and extreme climate phenomena, the organizer reserves the right to cancel the race or change the route. If there are any obstacles in which the trail can become impassable, alternative routes will be used as described at the technical meeting before the start of the race.

Competitors HAVE TO adhere strictly to the marked race route. In line with the rules of the race, with respect to the personal safety and the safety of other runners and race personnel, it is strictly forbidden to take shortcuts or cut out sections of the route. Any departure from the official route, apart from entailing disqualification, shall be at the sole risk of the competitor.

 

2 SAFETY AND CHECK POINTS

Each trail (MINI, MIDI, MAXI, ULTRA) will have its race coordinator. Members of the organizing team and the members of the Mountain Rescue Team will be positioned along the race route and will be in direct contact with the race coordinator. Medical personnel will also be placed on certain points along the course as well as at the start and finish line.

Check points shall be set up along the route, where members of the staff shall monitor the competitors as they pass and also apply random checks to verify that the competitors are in possession of the obligatory race equipment. Should anyone refuse to undergo the check on the obligatory race supplies, they shall be disqualified immediately.

 

3 ENVIRONMENT PROTECTION

Races shall takes place mainly in the woods governed by forestry companies Romanija and Jahorina, all managed by the public company „Forests of Srpska“. Competitors are required to abide by the principle of the environmental protection and regulations which strictly prohibits and sanctions the unlawful action of man towards forests.

As a reminder, the organizer notes that it is forbidden to throw away rubbish, to pick flowers or to disturb the wildlife in order to protect forests. In order to minimize the adverse impact of man on the environment, the organizer decided to perform the following measures to help preserve the natural environment where the race takes place:


  • Each competitor shall be disqualified from the race if proven to deliberately leave garbage and behaving negligently towards nature.
    • The competitors shall NOT be given water in plastic cups at the refreshment points. Each competitor shall be required to carry his/her own drinking cup or water bottle, which can be filled at the refreshment points.
    • Any illegal activity against the woods noticed by a participant or staff shall be reported to the organizer or to the competent service using a free phone number 080 05 01 02.

 

4 WEATHER CONDITIONS

The weather for this time of year is generally favorable. According to data from the Republic Hydro Meteorological Service, the average number of days with precipitation in July is 10 days. In most cases, there is the emergence of local showers, which are accompanied by thunder, heavy,short rainfall, and sometimes hail. The greatest risk and potential danger for this is in the summer months, especially in hilly and mountainous regions where local showers and thunder are intense due to the influence of orography. The minimum temperature in the early morning hours can be slightly below zero with altitude increasing.

In the case of extraordinary events, weather conditions, earthquakes, floods and extreme climate phenomena, the organizer reserves the right to suspend or cancel the race, even during the race, if the real circumstances present potential hazards for competitors. For the foregoing reasons, the organizer may change the route of the race, in which case, all competitors shall be informed in timely manner.

5 OBLIGATORY EQUIPMENT

The participants must possess the following equipment on ULTRA and MAXI race:

  • Water container or bottle with minimum volume of 1 litre
  • Cup
  • Space blanket
  • Whistle
  • Head lamp with spare baterries
  • Mobile phone with reliable battery
  • Rain jacket

 

Obligatory equipment will be checjed before the start of the race and random checks will be executed on the route during the race. MINI and MIDI participants are not obliged to possess space bankets, head lamp, cup and rain coat while other equipment listed as mandatory also applies to them except for water container which can be lesser volume.

The organization  recommends the following equipment:

  • Cap, hat or bandana
  • Sun and wind protection cream
  • Poles
  • Gels,chocolate bars and supplementation
  • First aid kit with elastic bandage, painkillers and band-aids
  • GPS device with race routes installed

If the participant decides to use poles, he/she should take care of them from start to finish. The organizer will not take any equipment left by competitors at refreshment points or at any other location during the race.

6 DISQUALIFICATION

The competitor will be disqualified with withdrawal of their race number if:
• fails to pass a check point;
• takes shortcuts;
• throws garbage away during the race;
• fails to aid a participant in difficulty;
• insults or threatens the staff or volunteers;
• uses transport during the race;
• refuses to undergo checks by the medical staff along the race route;
• refuses to allow checks of the obligatory material by official personnel on the route;
• does not have a head lamp, a survival blanket, rain coat or liquid container .

The penalty will be applied immediately.

7 MAXIMUM TIME OF RACE COMPLETION

ULTRA: Time limit to finish the race is 23 hours, until 06:00 AM on Sunday, 26 July.The trail has four time limit check points. There will be organized transport for those who withdraw due to injury or late pass.

MAXI: Time limit to finish the race is 16 hours, until 22:00 on Saturday, 25 July. The trail has three time limit check points. There will be organized transport for those who withdraw due to injury or late pass.

MIDI: Time limit to finish the race is 6 hours, until 16:00h on Saturday, 25 July. The trail has two time limit check points. There will be organized transport for those who withdraw due to injury or late pass.

MINI: Time limit to finish the race is 3 hours, until 13:00h on Saturday, 25 July.

The last participant will be followed by a ''cleaner'' in order to give assistance to injured all to those who decide to withdraw.

For each race, the organizer will publish a complete description of the tracks with time limits at checkpoints.

Competitors who do not arrive on time with a designated time limit will be stopped and will not be allowed to continue the race. In addition, medical personnel assigned to the length of the course will be allowed to stop and inspect competitors they deem incapable of continuing the race. In order to protect their health, competitors must follow the instructions of the medical staff. Otherwise, they will be immediately disqualified.

The organizer will provide transportation to the destination for all participants who drop out due to injury, those who are forbidden by medical staff to continue appearing, and those who break the time limit. Transport to the finish line will be carried out according to the plan of the race coordinator after enough people have left to fill the vehicle unless the situation requires an emergency transport. All competitors who drop out of the points from which it is possible to carry out transportation, are obliged to reach the first following checkpoint or refreshment point from where the vehicle will transport them further.

 

8 REFRESHMENT POINTS

The competitors are required to run partially self-sufficiently and must carry at least one liter of liquid and some food. Because of the high temperatures characteristic for this time of year, it is recommended that you have some salt on hand or something for rehydration to reduce the risk of loss of fluid. Only the runners carrying a visible race number have access to the refreshment stations.

WATER on Refreshment stands will ONLY be dispensed in the cups / bottles / containers that competitors carry with them. Other refreshments will be available in the original packaging. There will be drinking water at other places along the trail.

FOOD is consumed within Refreshment points. There are shops on MIDI, MAXI and ULTRA trails where it will be possible to buy food and water, so it is recommended to bring some money.

Competitors are required to dispose of any GARBAGE that remains after the consumption of food and drink at the designated places within Refreshment points.

When leaving each refreshment station, athletes must have sufficient liquid and food to reach the next station. The final refreshment point for everybody is at the finish line and then the hot meal will be served near the finish area for Midi, Maxi, and Ultra Trail participants.

9 Multimedia content rights

Upon registration for Jahorina Ultra Trail 2020, a competitor transfers all rights to use digital records showing the competitor (photographs,video material,etc.) to the organizer of this event.

10 Waiver of responsibility

By registering, a participant exempts the organizer from any liability, whether civil or criminal, for damage to persons and/or to their property caused by action of other participants.
